  2. I love 'Tangled up in Blue'......

    I love all your suggestions!!
See, you are right it is hard when you are put on the spot......

  3. I was a bit worried about my suggestions - they're all a bit sombre. I'm going to come up with five 'jolly' songs before the night is out.
I liked all yours except I didn't know the George Michael one - I'm so ignorant!!
I can always come up with a Beatles song - no problem.

  14. Santana, and do I have to have a beatles one I prefferred The Rutles. If I have to i'd go with deirdre and say a day in the life.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ok, well done but you don't get two choices....

David Bowie - The Laughing Gnome!! Years since I hear that one. Hilarious! What about Ecky Thump, by the Goodies!! Or better again The Funky Gibbon! Although they could also go into the 'really annoying' category?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Also, you will be eliminated from the contest unless you post your Book choice and Luxury Item....(but you may already have eliminated yourself with The Laughing Gnome)!

    ReplyDelete
  17. My luxury item will be:- roasted toadstools and a glass of dandelion wine

and my book will be:- The Secret Book of Gnomes by Wil Huygen illustrated by Rien Poortvliet

    ReplyDelete
  18. Instant disqualification!! Roasted toadstools AND a glass of Dandelion wine, is TWO items......

I hope you and the Gnomes will be very happy!
(is that really a book, or did you just make it up to win??)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Everyone knows roasted toadstools and a glass of dandelion wine is one item as you cant have one without the other.

With regards to the book I didn't make it up but do I win anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Now you are just being silly....

Toadstools wouldn't grow on a Desert Island and the Gnomes would drink all the wine...

You're the winner alright, in the 'really annoying' category!!

  21. Fergus,

I would openly say I love 'Old eight by ten' by Randy Travis and I'm a sucker for 'Forever and Ever, Amen'.

As for my top 5, that's just impossible? I could do some categories though.

    'Classic Pop' Category

When Tomorrow Comes - The Eurythmics
[Which may be the most perfect pop record I've ever heard]

Somewhere in my Heart - Aztec Camera

    Distant Sun - Crowded House

    Champagne Supernova - Oasis

    Call Me - Blondie

    Blimey that was hard! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Eh...excuse me! You need to post your 5 fav's and a book choice and a luxury item to be allowed play!! And who said that you could make up your own category (even if it is a good one!!)

    AND really....Blondie????

    ReplyDelete
  23. Right... I tried doing this, but had to stop when I reached number 25 (Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan, if you must know). So, I've decided to concentrate on the 'guilty pleasures' list instead.

Mine is (in no particular order)...

    1. Love Machine (Girls Aloud)
    2. The Boy Does Nothing (Alesha Dixon)
    3. Hold Me Close (David Essex)
    4. Show Me Heaven (Maria McKee)
    5. Oh What A Circus (David Essex... again)

As for The Beatles? Once again, I couldn't settle on a single song, so I've gone for one side of an album instead (remember when there were albums... and sides?); side two of Abbey Road, where all of the short songs are strung together. Here it is, done live...

  24. Ok, you Brennans are rubbish at this (except for Deirdre and me of course, nothing to do with the fact that we are girls!) Normally posting more than 5 would mean instant dismissal but as you actually haven't postet them and you haven't mention a 'gnome' you can remain in the competition. I must express slight concern to see two David Essex tracks in that category tho'! You can remain in the competition if you post your book and luxury item quickly!! Nice one on the Beatles btw!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Erm... for the book, can I have the Oxford English Dictionary? That is, after all, a book about everything. And as for the luxury item, that would have to be the Philips Senseo machine.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Good book choice, but why the Oxford 'English' Dictionary? What about the Collins Irish one? 'Cos I am sure words like, 'feck' and 'begorra' would be very useful when you are stranded on an Island....

You would be very articulate too, when you are finally rescued!
